  • HVAC News Roundup for March 2022

Huge, historical legislation and rulemaking happened this month in HVAC/R that will affect the future of our industry. In addition to this, there have been rises in refrigerant prices, EPA webinars, and calls for support from the industry from Ukraine. We have the latest in our round-up.

  • California’s SB 260 and SEC Tackle Scope 1 Emissions

California is once again leading the way in reducing companies’ Scope 1 emissions and bolstering their environmental sustainability and corporate sustainability initiatives. SB 260 recently passed through the California senate, addressing all three scopes of emissions. What is most important to refrigerant tracking and HVAC/R operations, though, is its effect on scope 1 emissions reporting.

  • Washington’s New HFCs Refrigerant Regulations

Washington is the latest state to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by placing regulations on hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs refrigerant). Many states are beginning to understand the ozone depletion potential of HFCs and are creating regulations for environmental sustainability and decreasing companies’ environmental footprints.

  • Sustainability, ESG Reporting, & Your Refrigerant Impact

At the recent COP26 climate summit in Glasgow, Scotland, the news about our current global warming trajectory and greenhouse gas emissions was fairly dire. We’ve already warmed the planet +1.2°C over pre-industrial averages (as of the summit in 2021).

  • Why is Estimating Fugitive Emissions Inaccurate?

At Trakref, we’re an advocate for proper tracking of fugitive emissions from refrigerants to curb the number of greenhouse gases and air pollution that we’re causing to the planet. However, we know many companies are new to refrigerant management and fugitive emissions reporting, especially as pressure for better ESG reporting persists in recent years.

  • What are Fugitive Emissions and Why Should I Care?

Fugitive emissions are gasses, whether natural gas, carbon dioxide, or refrigerant-specific gasses, that are released into the atmosphere accidentally. They’re considered hazardous air pollutants and a threat to environmental sustainability, coming from pressure-containing equipment like storage tanks and systems that we see in the air conditioning, data cooling, and refrigeration industry (HVAC/R).

  • HVACR Management and Refrigerants Tracking

done. Precision isn’t achievable without a compliance program that has a full understanding of the complex array of regulatory requirements and the technology that is needed.

  • Managing Environmental Compliance as an HVAC/R Pro

Effective HVAC/R and environmental compliance has always been about accuracy. It sounds simple, but it’s easier said than done. Precision isn’t achievable without an environmental compliance program that’s both intentional in daily operations and driven by a clear vision of compliance issues — with a full understanding of the complex array of regulations and requirements…

  • The Importance of ESG Reports

ESG reports are becoming more standard each year, so building on our trailblazing history of more than 25 years of refrigerant management, Trakref launches the Trakref and Darden Research Initiative for Compliance and Sustainability in partnership with the University of Virginia Darden School of Business.

  • COP26 – What Now?

After a two week meeting this past November, the 26th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework on Climate Change (COP26), participating nations came up with the Glasgow Climate Pact which proudly announced the accomplishments of the summit.
